The West Islay Tidal Energy Farm, with its planned 30 turbines, has been approved by ministers. It will be situated approx. three miles off the south-west coast and will have a peak capacity to generate power equivalent to that needed by 18,000 homes – 30MWh.

Construction is anticipated to start in 2019.

This is yet another example of Scotland’s desire to run with renewable energy.
